Every dog I train is held to one standard.

People ask me what T3 stands for. It's Taryn, Tegan and Tinsley: my wife and my two daughters.

I put their initials on this business for a reason. They're the standard every protection dog I train is held to. Before a dog finishes this program, I ask myself two questions. Would I trust this dog around my girls? Would I trust it to stand between them and a threat? If the answer to either one is no, we are not done.

Control comes from the relationship and the repetition, not the size of the handler.

My daughter trained her own protection dog, Valkyrie. That tells you how I train. A protection dog has to be safe enough for a child to handle and serious enough to stop a threat. It takes both halves to get there, and it takes time.

Step one

It starts with an evaluation.

Before any bite work, Zac evaluates your dog and your household. Not every dog is a candidate. If yours isn't, you'll hear it straight in the first session, along with what your dog is good for. That answer protects your family too.

The evaluation is a paid session at the protection rate.

The program

Ten to twelve months. Four phases. No shortcuts.

Every session is 1 on 1 with Zac, once a week. Each phase has to be solid before the next one starts.

01Months 1 to 2

Foundation

Obedience the whole family can rely on. Engagement, focus and markers, and a dog that works for you under distraction. Every protection dog starts here.

02Months 3 to 5

Drive & grip

Building a full, calm grip on tugs, pillows and sleeves, and the most important word in protection work: the out.

Real world

Scenarios built around how you actually live: your home, your vehicle, your walks and public places. The goal is social protection, a dog that can lie calmly under a restaurant table and still be ready.

Levels

Three levels of protection.

Zac recommends a level after the evaluation, based on your dog and your household.

Level one

Social protection

A stable, confident dog that goes everywhere with you, reads a threat, and alerts and deters on command.

Level two

Personal protection

Everything in social protection, plus trained bite work: engage on command, release on command, and guard the handler.

Level three

Family protection

Trained around your whole household. The dog learns who it lives with, your home and your vehicle, and every adult learns to handle it.

The investment

What you're paying for.

This is the most involved program T3 offers, and it's priced that way. You're paying for a year of a professional's time and a dog you can trust with your family.

Weekly sessions for 10 to 12 months, then maintenance. Every dog starts with a paid evaluation.

Trained to the same standard as agency dogs

Zac trains dogs for sheriff's departments. Those agencies are never named on this site or on social media. Serious clients can request references before they commit.

Your privacy is part of your protection

Protection clients, their homes, their vehicles and their dogs are never posted without permission. What you share in your application stays between you and Zac.

A protection dog is a commitment.

Owning one well takes more than training. Before bite work starts, every family should have a plan for these.

Can my dog become a protection dog?

Maybe. The evaluation looks at drive, nerve, grip and stability, plus your household. Some dogs are great candidates, some are better as well trained family dogs, and Zac will tell you which.

Is a protection dog safe around kids?

A properly trained one is. The whole program is built on stability and control, and the family learns the rules alongside the dog. Zac's own daughter trained her own protection dog, Valkyrie.

How long does protection training take?

Most dogs train weekly for 10 to 12 months across four phases, then move to quarterly or monthly maintenance. Where a dog lands in that range depends on its age and its drive. There is no responsible shortcut.

How much does protection dog training cost?

Protection sessions are $200 each, weekly, for 10 to 12 months, starting with a paid evaluation. After the evaluation, Zac can tell you what your dog will likely need.

Do you sell trained protection dogs?

Yes. T3 breeds working line Dutch Shepherds and offers puppies, started dogs and trained protection dogs to approved applicants.

Where does training happen?

Foundation and bite work happen in a controlled setting. Scenario work happens where you live your life: your home, your vehicle and your neighborhood in St. Johns County.
